Hear them out

I just want to let you know that I have finished reading “The Lost Harmony” webtoon in less than half a day. Can you believe it? I personally can't believe myself too since I'm a slow reader and not the type who can read a novel or webtoon in a rush. I think I've always been the kind of person who savours the process of being drowned into the flow of the story. But this one is just... different case :D

“The Lost Harmony” is a romance drama and slice of life story between two long-lost childhood friends who lived in, literally, a different world. The main character, Ellie Serophina, is someone who is introduced as a girl who hates music, especially when it comes to piano-related music. She would feel dizzy to the extent wanted to vomit when she heard piano instrumentals being played. It's somewhat hard for her to live like that since her best friend and housemate, Serena, is a pianist.

Ellie knew for a long time that Serena likes the infamous pianist named Ethan Walts. The day when Ellie headed to her new working place with Serena, a news announced that Ethan was found dead due to suicide in his temporary apartment after six months of disappearance. It clearly made Serena shocked and stopped in the middle of the zebra cross. Unfortunately, because of that, Ellie was getting hit by a truck when she tried to save Serena and immediately had to undergo a surgery. Little did she know, the colour of her eyes now were changing because she got eyes transplantation and at the same time her heart also need to get transplantation. To her surprise, her donor was Ethan Walst. The story began when Ellie surprisingly could hear piano instrumental and see Ethan's ghost, who had a request for her to fulfill, that is: finishing his last piece of song.

With a total chapters of 139, “The Lost Harmony” is divided into 3 seasons. I felt a little bit surprised when I really managed to finish it within 8 hours, starting from this morning at 5 AM until around 1 PM. It usually takes me two to five days to finish a webtoon with more than 70 chapters in it, but this morning, I really had the sudden urge to read and finish the story, to find out how the story ends, even though since the first season I had vaguely guessed how it would end. But, it's worth my time. The art style is so pretty and the soundtracks are so beautifully composed. When you read the   chapter which has the background music, I guarantee you can't help it but to get immersed in the melody and the story. It really is beautiful yet heart-wrenching at the same time.

It hurt me the most when Ellie had thought that she was a “disabled & imperfect item” because she couldn't meet the expectations of her parents when in actuality all her parents did to Ellie was telling her that she has no talent and of no use to their so-called-respectful “Serophina” family. All she ever wanted were only a warm hug of her mother and the love from her family. But she never got it and still forgave them in the end.

Their parents didn't deserve her sincerity at all actually. I know in the last chapters, Ellie's mother felt what she did to her daughter was wrong. But her evil deed couldn't be undone. She felt remorse but at what cost? Her daughter was already gone, no? How come a parent didn't feel ashamed to come and go as she pleased when she blatantly admitted that she disowned her daughter? She didn't even give Ellie a break when she was already tired from getting hospital treatment. I understand that Ellie's mother had her own difficulties when she became the madam of Serophina house, but that didn't justify her actions when she abused Ellie because she couldn't play piano. She was still a bad mother and could never be a good one in 23 years of Ellie's life. And the worst is, she never said sorry to her daughter when she was still alive.

All my life, I never sensed any familiarity of being in love cause I never once ever felt it. Then, you came into my life. I could sense something warm, and that was when I immediately knew that it was what people usually called 'love'. You made me the luckiest person in this world.

To her aunt, Ellie was a nephew whom she cared so much like she was her own child. To her closest friends, Ellie was a person whom they could look up to because she always gave them her best company. And to her loved one, Ellie was his everything.

Listen to my melody. I hope this voice can reach you. Ethan, I need nothing but your love. I don't need somebody else but you to be by my side. You make sure that I am someone special. You make my heart complete. As long as you're by my side, I don't care if the world is against us. -Ellie

I'm so lucky that this song is completed by you. Thank you so much, Ellie. I don't regret dying at such a young age because this death brought me to you. And though we can never get to play the piano together, I hope you remember that this song is what we have composed together. So let my heart beats for you as long as possible, Ellie. -Ethan

When Ellie finally finished the piece Ethan wanted her to complete, the story was also... finished. I, once again, ugly cried.

This webtoon implicitly tells that not everyone understands how much it hurts to be left alone, even less, for eternity by our loved ones. Sometimes, there's lots of things that a song can tell which a letter can't. Time is irreversible, so cherish your time with your loved ones before it's getting late.

Tldr: I'm sorry if you had to read this ramblings but go read The Lost Harmony in webtoon!
